Serenity (Coming Storm)
February 20, 2008
I’ve added a new piece the gallery titled Serenity (Coming Storm). It’s my little tribute to one of the best sci-fi dramas of all time, Firefly. Clicky>

Got something to say?

Jacob, that is a truly outstanding image. I found your site via Renderosity’s forums, and have spent the last two days looking through it and being more and more impressed with each image I saw.
I have a question though. I’m assuming that the background and ship were rendered in Vue, but what about the foreground rocks? I assume those are a photograph that has been composited in to the image–if not, how on Earth did you get Vue to create such a realistic-looking rocky outcropping?
Thanks for the compliments RJ. To answer your question, yes, the rock face is made up of several photos from northern Arizona - Sedona and the Grand Canyon to be exact. I took all of the parts and pieces that I found most interesting and reassembled them into the foreground rock face and matched the color to the rendered image.
Vue is pretty amazing when it comes it it’s ability to recreate nature, but sometimes you just can’t beat the real thing
